Common Seed Bead Sizes
Seed beads are sized in aughts, rather than in millimeters. Aughts are denoted by a slash and a zero, or a degree mark, following the size (e.g. size 11 is written 11/0 or 11º).
Many sources explain seed bead size as beads per inch (for example, size 11/0 = 11 beads per inch), but we have found that there are often many more beads per inch (see chart below).
Our research has shown us that seed bead size is actually related to the size of the original glass rod that was chopped up into bead-sized pieces.
There is one important rule about seed bead sizes:
The higher the number, the smaller the bead.
